It’s December-Christmas Holiday time 2017 and I’m so grateful to Steven Mansour and Paul Marcial at Ink Detroit and their TheGreatLakesState.com efforts to create a “Collections” line of “say nice things about Detroit” items in time for Christmas. I hope you will take a moment and take a look at not just our “say nice things about Detroit” line but all their fun Detroit and Michigan themed items. Retail and wholesale.
Thanks for your support and interest … here’s the link.
Some background …
As owner of the retail store Emily’s Across the Street next to the London Chop House in downtown Detroit in the 70′-80 Pooh (Herb) and I created the “Say nice things about Detroit” movement. Detroit was “Murder Capital of the World” and we loving working and living in the city. Not withstanding some of the challenges we knew others felt the same way. It was our home and work place.
When we started “say nice things about Detroit” all we were saying is “wherever you live, work or play if you have a personal story about what it is you like, love, enjoy about Detroit share that story. It makes a difference.
And we wanted people to come downtown and patronize Emily’s and run in our Emily Detroit Run’s and learn about the other businesses and restaurants and experiences they would enjoy in Detroit.
Needless to say, the attitude struck a chord in people’s hearts and it was everyone who got behind what we were saying and everyone who continues to share a story, puts a “say nice things about Detroit” sticker on their car, proudly wears their t-shirt and loves that it often starts conversation that keeps it authentic and fun and makes a difference.
We can all be caretakers, ambassadors while we share our personal stories or those of all the people who never gave up in Detroit. They do it naturally and I appreciate the support it gives me to continue the ways I “say nice things about Detroit”. That includes working on converting some wonderful video and photos from those days to digital and continue curating and showcasing some of the history of 70′-80’s in downtown Detroit.
Below are some of the items I’ve had and still offer to date … grateful to Chris Gorski, DetroitGT for the design of the yellow sticker and mug. He said I inspired him as a kid, now he is inspiring so many himself as he creates his Detroit icon art.
You can order some of these “say nice things about Detroit” items I have below by sending emailing me firstname.lastname@example.org. Makes sense? Hope so.
However, I would really prefer if you are in the Detroit area to visit one of my very special caretakers of “say nice things about Detroit” . With each of these locations there are wonderful threads of our stories in Detroit that overlap and interact.
